About Angela Rutledge

Angela Rutledge has never sat the LSAT. Her bachelor's degree is in dramatic writing, from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She started law school at 41 with three children under three, earned an LLB from the University of Law in England, and then an LL.M. from George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School.

Angela takes court-appointed criminal defense cases as conflict counsel in a tribal court in Nebraska. She is admitted in three tribal courts, two federal courts of appeals, and three federal district courts, and she is registered with the Executive Office for Immigration Review to appear in the immigration courts and before the Board of Immigration Appeals. She is tribally admitted and is not admitted to the bar of any state.

Her strength, though, is the support role. Through her business, Legal Writer & Law Clerk, she researches and drafts for attorneys in the US and solicitors in the UK. She has contributed several articles to Above the Law and served as a Writer in Residence for the D.C. Bar, writing for Washington Lawyer magazine.

"I never wanted to take the LSAT, and when I looked for resources for people like me, who wanted another way into law school, I couldn't find any," she says. "So I wrote this guide. I have sat the GRE and JD Next myself, so I know those tests firsthand, and I checked every rule in this book against its source."

She posts on TikTok as @angelawclerk about alternative routes into law, moving into a legal career after 40, and going back to law school.
