Updates and corrections

Rules change after a book is published. When they do, I post the change here. Check again before you act.

What was moving when the book went to press

Several things were moving as the first edition went to press. If one of them touches your plan, check it before you rely on the book.

  • The ABA’s variance program. The ABA extended it in August 2026.
  • The ABA’s standing as an accreditor. The Department of Education had not decided whether to keep recognizing the ABA’s Council as an accreditor of law schools.
  • Washington State. Its Board of Governors voted in September 2026 to keep its new definition of an approved law school, and says its work on the policy isn’t finished.
  • Florida. Its amended rule took effect on October 1, 2026.
  • Alabama. Its new rule takes effect on January 1, 2027.
  • Federal student loans. More of the 2025 loan changes take effect in July 2027 and July 2028.
  • Tuition, and the Appendix A list. Both change every year.

To see where things stand today, check the Supreme Court of Texas's list of approved law schools, the Florida Supreme Court's docket for case SC2025-2064, the admissions pages of the Alabama and Washington state bars, and news of the Department of Education's decision on the ABA's Council.

How often I check

I plan to recheck everything before each application season and revise the book when something in it stops being true.
